Bench-Scale Testing Demonstrates Treatability
UniPure's technical staff performs bench-scale treatability tests on wastestream samples. This both proves the applicability of the UniPure System and establishes the basis for a meaningful Process Guarantee. This process comprises several steps:
-
Upon receipt of relevant wastestream samples, UniPure determines or confirms influent metals concentrations. Based on the concentration of these metals and the other contaminants of concern, we next perform a theoretical process feasibility study to evaluate process design options, treatment chemical options, operating preferences, mechanical equipment options and physical site constraints.
-
The results of the feasibility study will be translated into bench-scale testing procedures and t testing is preformed. These tests provide UniPure's taff with treatment chemical usage rates, retention periods, observations of physical changes during the treatment process and resulting treated metals concentrations. If the testing is not successful, UniPure's technical staff will use the data generated during the initial testing to design alternative process options. When a successful treatment process is proven, the results of the testing are typically used to generate a UniPure System design package.
-
The design package includes, at minimum, a process flow diagram, a process flow description, estimated operating parameters and costs for the full-scale system, a preliminary equipment list, system layout and budgetary projections for the UniPure System.
When evaluating a client's process requirements, UniPure has more than 15 years' experience with thousands of successful treatability tests from which to draw. This is the reason why we are so confident that the Systems we propose are the most cost-effective available, and proven long before construction or installation begins. UniPure routinely designs, builds and installs Systems based on these bench-scale testing results.

Pilot-Scale Study
Based on successful bench-scale testing, UniPure's engineering staff will deliver, install, commission, start-up and operate a 5 gallon-per-minute pilot treatment unit. The unit shown employs our patented iron co-precipitation process. Any pretreatment equipment and dewatering equipment needed to simulate the successful process are added to the unit shown to test the entire System's efficiencies.
Skid-mounted pilot units are compact and user-friendly. Their chemical addition systems, transfer pumps and instrumentation allow the process to be modified easily during testing to accommodate varying process scenarios.
UniPure maintains skid-mounted units in inventory in the U.S., Europe and South America. A unit can be delivered to your site within two weeks. UniPure's engineering staff will assist you with any or all tasks related to a pilot demonstration. Our aim is to provide you with a cost effective pilot demonstration which will proves that the UniPure System we propose will comfortably meet all the foreseeable variations in the wastestreams it treats.
Pilot units are also your operating staff to "buy-in" to the change in the treatment process and the transition involved. Their acceptance and understanding of the treatment system minimizes your long-term operating costs - the largest expense related to your facility's environmental compliance.

Industrial Wastewater Audit
UniPure provides an Industrial Wastewater Audit Service as a vehicle for investigating and thoroughly understanding your unique wastewater treatment needs. UniPure's technical staff will work with your engineering, environmental and treatment system operations staff to clearly identify your wastestreams' unique characteristics, existing system capabilities and discharge goals. The Audit Team will utilize their industry-specific process, mechanical and operational experience to analyze your facility's needs. If we do not have experience with your specific needs we will gladly help you contact a qualified treatment specialist in our referral network.

Design Engineering
Our more than 15 years of experience has proven two things. Every wastestream is unique. And treatment systems must be designed for specific applications in order to be cost-effective. Rarely does a "cookie cutter" type design meet ever application requirement. UniPure's Design Team exists to ensure that the UniPure System meets all your treatment needs.
Using the information provided by you or from the information gathered from a UniPure Wastewater Audit, our engineers will design the equipment that will cost-effectively meet all your treatment needs.
UniPure's chemical engineers finalize the process and control design. The designs are presented via Process Flow Diagram(s), Process & Instrumentation Diagram(s), Material Balance Spreadsheet and a Process Control Description.
UniPure's mechanical & electrical engineers translate the process and control designs into the mechanical and electrical engineering tools needed to cost-effectively procure, fabricate and install the treatment equipment. Specific project needs will vary but design tools may include detailed Bill of Materials, Equipment Specifications, Component Fabrication Packages, Skid-Mounting Fabrication Packages, System Layouts, Component General Arrangements, Hydraulic Profiles, Single Line Drawings, Ladder Logic Diagrams and Component Data Sheets.

Project Management
UniPure's "internal ownership" program ensures that the same project manager responsible for evaluating the subtleties of your specific application is responsible for delivering a System that fulfills defined expectations. That is, the project manager who oversees your needs until project completion was involved in your first information exchanges with UniPure and will be responsible through the successful start-up and operation of your UniPure System.
UniPure's project manager will oversee the deliverables from the applicable engineering disciplines and will ensure the quality of the design package. He will oversee the procurement and fabrication of your system and notify you of any deviations from the Project Schedule.

Installation
Many clients require assistance with installation process design, and UniPure's engineering staff answers the need. We can provide construction drawings, piping diagrams, electrical connection diagrams or complete bid packages. UniPure also can assist you with permit application, construction bid review or contractor evaluation.
To complement our design and fabrication capabilities UniPure offers installation services for all of our treatment systems. UniPure's construction team will off-load the components, set the equipment in place, do the interconnecting piping, install the interconnecting wiring and perform mechanical commissioning. Our team's experience installing our equipment will minimize time and costs while providing you with a single point of responsibility throughout the project.
Cost minimization is our goal. Your specific needs will dictate our scope.

Mechanical Commissioning
If System installation is completed by an organization other than UniPure, one of our project engineers will confirm proper mechanical and electrical commissioning prior to start-up and commencement of operator training. As an alternative, the project engineer can supervise the final phase of installation and commissioning, or perform the commissioning himself.

System Start-Up
When commissioning is complete, UniPure's project engineer will begin start-up by initiating the chemical processes. As the chemical processes are optimized, the engineer will begin training your operating staff.
Training the System's operators will involve classroom training on the chemistries employed by the UniPure System, hands-on training with the treatment components, hands-on training with routine maintenance activities and hands-on training with normal start-up or shutdown procedures.
The long-term operations and maintenance costs are the largest expenses related to pollution abatement systems. Effective operator training will help to minimize those costs over the life of the UniPure System.
